42nd Anniversary of Stilwell's Learning Center, LLC
January 2012, marked the 42nd anniversary of Stilwell’s Learning Center, LLC. Approximately 15,000 students have utilized Stilwell’s multi-media, multi-sensory services and have overcome all types of learning problems. Mr. Stilwell has been an educational consultant for over 40 years. Formerly, he served as a teacher in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Africa. Upon returning to the USA, he served as a vice principal and teacher for 2 years, in one of 4 separate sixth grade outdoor education locations in San Diego, California.
Next, he taught for several years in a low income area of San Diego with 5th and 6th grade classrooms. The classrooms had 40 students, all below 2nd grade levels. By the end of each year the students demonstrated nearly two years gain in academics. During those years, Mr. Stilwell helped design a learning system used in a center he owned and directed and with which he finally ventured into full-time business in 1972. Mr. Stilwell has a Master’s Degree in Education/Human Behavior from United States International University in San Diego, CA. with an emphasis in dealing with children and teens with Dyslexia and other Learning Disabilities.
The 75 students used in his thesis project were the lowest scholastically in a school of 900. In 7 months they had made 2.7 years growth in reading with his phonics learning project. He continued to work with two outstanding companies, serving, at different times, as educational consultant and vice president of both companies. Stilwell’s Learning Center, LLC is known as the place where caring and responsible teachers get results working with the learning differences of children, teens and adults.
Chuck Stilwell is the owner and director of Stilwell’s Learning Center, LLC located in the Haymore Plaza on 500 Fry Blvd., Suite L-14 in Sierra Vista, AZ. 85635. SLC has expanded into various areas of Arizona with Supplemental Educational Services to Title I schools.
Mr. Stilwell is in his 44th year of marriage with his lovely wife, Sue. She owns S & S Tours, specializing in Latin American tours. They have 2 wonderful sons, a lovely daughter-in-law and 3 adorable granddaughters. Their older son lives with his family in Sierra Vista. The younger son is a contractor in Bozeman, Montana.
Teachers, Tutors and Staff:
Sharon Havins has a caring and gentle manner making her a favorite with younger students. She has been with Stilwell’s Learning Center, LLC since 2001. She is loyal and faithful and sees her work as a mission to help children, teens and adults. She helps them not only to excel, but become productive in life. Her hope is that students will recognize their God-given abilities, be freed of learning difficulties and receive God’s goodness on a daily basis.
Christina Reaves has a child who has been greatly helped by Stilwell’s Learning Center, LLC. She has a background in health and nursing skills and is very good with children, teens and adults. She is a wonderful addition to Stilwell’s Learning Center, LLC.
Cortney Vaughn thoroughly enjoys working with the students and curriculum. Teaching is her passion and working with students brings joy to her life. She always looks forward to meeting members of the families and watching the students achieve academic success. She is a graduate from Vanguard University of Southern California. She received her bachelor’s of arts in Elementary Education and had much classroom experience while there. She taught junior high and high school literature and history. Also, she previously worked as a substitute for every grade level. She is grateful to be working at Stilwell's and for all of the wonderful students she has encountered here.
Anna Gaboury’s heart is for learning. Preparing for an Elementary Education Credential, it is her goal to help students to become lifelong learners. Her growing knowledge is an asset to Stilwell’s Learning Center. She exudes a joyful spirit and belief in excellence. Anna has a quiet way about her that encourages confidence.
Erica Soto, our wonderful office manager, is so appreciated by all. Her efficiency and unfailingly cheerful spirit is a great asset. She is a treasure and we are thankful for her good care of all of our office staff and clients.
